Description
From the word “fanulum” a diminutive of “fanum” an ancient pagan word meaning “sacred place” and later “temple”.
Fiano is a modest sized settlement bordered by the road that follows an ancient mountain pathway between Preci and Norcia that appears to be more of a village, due to the irregular layout and distance of the buildings of the two parts in which it is divided: Fiano di Sopra and Fiano di Sotto.
In Fiano di Sotto there are some interesting, covered, shed-like structures leaning against the houses, held up by circular, brick pillars and used to store agricultural tools. Two dove towers can be seen, one of which stands in the town centre.
